I have a troubled student who could be going through something horrendous. What should i do?

It sounds as if someone told her somebody she loved had died or something. She probably needs some time alone, however if she was willing to tell you about her abusive past, after a while, she might tell you what happened in this instance, and from there you can go about being supportive for her.
