What does "GOD fearing man" mean?

It means to me that the Bible and this idea of fearful Christianity is nothing more than a device for controlling people. If this "god" is so good and loving, then why does Christianity ign him/her/it the worst traits of humanity? Vengeance, jealousy, anger. I don't fear anything, that's why I don't need aor want the "god" crutch.
