We have 15 bunnies!!?
Female rabbits have two uterine horns and are in heat 28 days of each month... There's only a small window where they're NOT fertile. Even though you pulled the male off the female the second you saw them mating, it's likely that he'd already mated at least once, if not more. The reason the second litter is smaller is that she was pregnant and nursing at the same time so her body was depleted of nutrients. What needs to happen is that both mom and BOTH litters need to be together until the first litter is 7-8 weeks old. Then you must the babies from that litter and seperate males from females. Same goes with litter number two. Make sure mama has all she can eat until the babies are old enough to be seperated. Once both litters are weaned, spay the female! Then, 4-6 weeks afte her spay surgery you can begin introductions of your original two rabbits.
